Vazhaipoo Kootu


A simple and healthy dish. Vazhaipoo is most commonly used in making vada. This dish tastes absolutely good with hot rice and ghee.
Preparation Time : 15 mins | Cooking Time :15 mins | Serves: 4
Ingredients:
  • Toor dal  -1 cup
  • Vazhaipoo - 2 cup finely chopped
  • Green chili - 2 nos chopped
  • Onion - 1/4 cup chopped
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Chili powder - 1/4 tsp (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for seasoning
For seasoning:
  • Mustard - 1/4 tsp
  • Broken urad - 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves
Method:

  • Below is the picture showing how to clean your vazhaipoo. Discard the right most. After this you could chop and soak in water until you cook.












  • Cook toor dal with little turmeric.


  • Now add onions, green chili, vazhaipoo, salt. Red chili powder a little(optional)


  • Bring it boil. It cooks quickly, so don't keep boiling for long.
  • In a pan add oil and seasoning, when splutters add it to the dal.

  • Enjoy with hot rice and a little ghee.
