Turmeric
 Its a commonly used spice in Indian cooking, apart from that it's a natural medicine for a lot of problems. Here are a few:
  • Sore throat: Turmeric 1/4 tsp, pepper 1/4 tsp, 1/2 tsp honey with 1 cup warm milk.
  • Face Mask: Turmeric 1/2 tsp, 2 tsp yogurt/curd, 1 tsp honey, mix well and apply as a face mask for 5 mins. It doesn't stain your face. But use an old towel just in case.
  • Joint Pains: Boil 1 cup water add 1/4 tsp turmeric, 1/4 tsp ginger, and honey to taste. Rest them for 15 mins before consuming. Relieves knee and joint pains.
  • Small cuts/Wounds: Mix turmeric and coconut oil to make a paste and apply. Its antibiotic action prevents bacterial infections.
Juicy Lemon
 Microwave lemon for 10 to 15 seconds or keep them in warm water to get more juice out of it.

Vinegar
 A must-have in all households. Wash your cutting board with vinegar to remove the odor of onion, garlic,  meat.

Nonstick pans
 Avoid cooking sour food like lemon or tamarind based on nonstick. It peels off the coating reducing its durability.

Acidity Relief

  • Grind 1 elaichi/cardamom with 3 cloves in a mortar, add some honey if needed. Have this after dinner regularly for a week. Avoid having coffee first thing in the morning.
  • Slowly chew saunf/sombu.

Allergy Relief (sneezing)
Have a teaspoonful of honey (local honey if possible)in an empty stomach first thing in the morning. You could have anything after half an hour. This absolutely works and I have tried it for myself.
Continue doing this for a minimum of 1 week to 1 month.

For Piles, Hemorrhoids
Take 1/4 tsp of honey and cinnamon powder mixed with honey and drink a glass of warm water before bed. You could also get this mixed directly in warm water and consume.

Chest congestion/Caugh
  • Mix Camphor/Karpooram with coconut oil and massage over chest throat and under ears.
  • Squeeze the juice from Murungai keerai leaves add a little bit sunambhu
  • Gooseberry pulp with honey soothes your throat.
Sun-Dried Veggies
  • During summer sun dry carrots, beets, greens, powder them and add to your rotis for a colorful and healthy recipe.
  • Sun-dried okra, eggplant, and kothavarangai make good vathal for your vatha kozhambu.
Food to consume during Flu/Fever
  • Rice kanji
  • Milagu rasam
  • Orange rasam
  • Thippili rasam
  • Nilavembu Kashayam
