Manga Veppam Poo Pachadi

                          

A traditional sweet made on Tamil New Year’s Day, which signifies that life is a combination of emotions as in this recipe where all 6 flavors of tastes are infused. Sweet(Inippu),sour(pulippu), salt(uppu), spice(karam), bitter(kasappu) and astringent(thuvarpu)

Ingredients:
Raw mango - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Neem flower - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1/4tsp
Plain chili powder - 1/4 tsp

For tempering:
Oil - 1tsp
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Red chili - 3 nos


 
Method:
  • Thin slice the mangoes, add 1/4 cup water and start to cook.


  • Meanwhile, add a little water to jaggery and boil, this is just to remove any dust in it. 

  • Add the jaggery water and cook until the water reduces and mangoes cook soft.

  • Temper with 1 tsp oil, mustard, 3 red chilies, and neem flower.



  • Enjoy yummy pachadi with curd rice or roti too.
