Kadalai/Channa Sundal



As Navarathri starts, making variety of sundals for neivedyam each day is a tradition in India. Kadalai sundal is always there one day.
I remember when we where small kids we used to go to our friends house for Golu just to have sundal. They give in small packs which tastes so good. We feel as if we have never eaten this kind of snack. Years pass by, but waiting to have sundal during Navarathri is always special.


Preparation Time : 5 mins | Cooking Time : 20 mins |Serves: 4
Ingredients:

Channa - 1 cup - soak over night
Coconut - 2 tbsp
Salt

Dry roast and grind:
Channa dal - 1 tsp
Dania - 1 tsp
Red Chili - 2

You can use sambar powder as an alternative.

For Seasoning:
Mustard - 1/2 tsp
Urad - 1/2 tsp
Red chili - 2
Curry leaves

Method:

  • Soak channa overnight and pressure cook channa for 3 to 4 whistles with a little salt. Drain the water and keep. 

  • In a pan add oil and season with mustard, urad, red chili and curry leaves. Add the channa, sambar powder and grated coconut. Mix well and its ready.



  • Sundal is ready.
