Chicken Channa Dal Curry

Chicken Curry with channa dal is yet another favorite recipe of my
moms cooking. She used to have a hectic schedule while we were small kids, but never failed to give us yummy food all thru her life. Sometimes we end up making quick food and has to be homemade. She doesn't use actual measurements. Eyes and hands take care of them. I am also used to that kind of cooking, but it's good to know your measurements until you get used to and to cook on large scale. This recipe comes in handy where you don't have to keep focusing. Just leave it on one side and keep preparing the other dishes.

Preparation Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 25 mins |Serves: 4
Ingredients:

Chicken - 2 lbs
Channa dal - 1/2 cup
Onion - 1 medium chopped
Tomato - 1 chopped
Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
Dania - 1 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil as needed

Add finally:

Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Garlic - crushed 4 to 5
Curry leaves

Method:

  • Wash and clean your chicken. Add the chicken, channa dal, onions, tomatoes, and turmeric.
  • Saute for a while just enough to mix them all together.
  • Add 1/2 cup water, chili powder, dhania powder, salt, close and cook for about 20 mins in medium heat. This process will leave enough water for the channa and chicken to cook.
  • Open and cook the gravy to get dry as per your need. Add oil as needed or just enough that the gravy doesn't stick to the bottom. Add the pepper powder, garlic, and curry leaves.

  • Yummy chicken curry is ready to serve. You can have this as a side dish to go with rice and sambar, rasam, chappathi...

Note:
  • If water seems to be more open and cook after 10 mins.
  • Always adjust chili powder and salt as per your taste.
