Beans Usili made in a simple one pot dish. Usually we steam the
channa dal mix like idli and then fry them until crisp. I have used a simple way to satisfy both the part. My sister used this method to make for vada curry to avoid frying in oil. I have used the same concept for beans usili.
Preparation Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 25 mins |Serves: 4
Ingredients:
Channa dal - 1 cup
Beans - 1 lb
Onion - 1 small
Red chilli - 5 to 6
Curry leaves
Salt as needed
Oil
For Tempering:
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Urad - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves
Channa dal - 1 cup
Beans - 1 lb
Onion - 1 small
Red chilli - 5 to 6
Curry leaves
Salt as needed
Oil
For Tempering:
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Urad - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves
Method:
- Soak Channa for an hour. Wash and drain the cut green beans.
- Grind the channa dal by adding red chilli to a coarse consistency.
- In a wide pan add some oil and temper with mustard and urad.
- Add the onions and curry leaves. Saute for a min.
- Now add the ground channa dal mix. Add little salt just for the dal.
- Spread. sprinkle some water, close and steam cook for about 15 mins. This will help cook the channa dal and also make it crisp at the bottom.
- Now add the green beans, salt open and cook until they get a little dry.
- Add curry leaves and transfer immediately. This will help retain its color.
Note:
1. Channa dal can be substituted with toor dal also.
2. Always cook green beans open to retain its color.
