Tea Kadai Onion Bonda

Tea Kadai onion bonda lately reminds me of our vacation to India
and trip to Kutralam Gundar dam. It was almost monsoon time and most of the dams were closed for the heavy waterfall. My SIL's brother suggested this dam which had a private space to enjoy the waterfall. The ride to the spot and the waterfall was an amazing and thrilling experience. We were so hungry by the time we returned down or maybe the smell of the fresh onion bonda and egg omelets made us hungry. It was prepared hot and fresh as we ordered so I got a chance to take a look at the way they prepared from the scratch each time. With all the wetness, having hot onion bonda and tea is an overwhelming experience.

Preparation Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 15 mins |Serves: 4

Ingredients:

Onions - 1 big sliced
Mint - 1 tbsp
Corriander - 1 tbsp
Green chilies - as per taste
Besan - 1/4 cup
Maida - 1/4 cup
Rice flour - 1/4 cup
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
Salt as needed
Oil to fry

Method:

  • Slice the onions, add chopped coriander, mint, green chilies turmeric, chili powder, and salt.
  • Mix them all together with your hands. This process tends to leave some water from the onions.
  • Rest for 2 mins and then add all the flour, baking soda. Mix them all to make a soft batter consistency by adding water as needed.

  • When the oil is hot drop them as a handful of size balls.

  • Keep heat in medium and cook until they turn golden brown.
  • Drain on a paper towel.
  • Serve hot with any chutney.
