Nei Appam made from wheat flour. Its my 50th recipe in the blog. This is made mostly during Karthikai Deepam and Krishna Jayanthi. Its a famous dish made in Kerala with rice flour.
I have substituted with wheat flour to make it an instant snack. You can substitute the ghee with nallenai or coconut oil for a different flavor.
Preparation Time : 5 mins | Cooking Time : 20 mins | Serves : 4
Ingredients:
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Banana - 1/2
Banana - 1/2
Elaichi - 1/4 tsp
Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
Ghee to fry
Ghee to fry
Method:
- Take all the ingredients in a bowl, mash the banana and mix all to a batter consistency by adding water as needed.
- Rest for 5 mins.
- In a kuzhi paniyaram pan, add ghee/oil. When hot pour the batter and cook until it gets a brown color.
- Turn over and cook to get a brown color on the other side.
Note:
1.The baking soda is necessary for a soft nei appam.
2.If you don't have a kuzhi paniyaram pan you can pour a scoop of batter directly in hot oil and make the appams.
