Aval Puttu


A traditional puttu widely made during Gokul Ashtami and Navarathiri. This is an easy recipe that can also be made as a quick snack or breakfast. Children would love this recipe.

Preparation Time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 5 mins 

Ingredients:  
  • Aval/thin poha - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom - 1/4 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Cashews - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - a pinch
                     

Method:
  •  Melt jaggery in 1/4 cup water on low heat. Add cardamom powder and salt.


  • Fry the aval/poha in 1/2 tsp ghee. Fry for a min, just enough to heat it up.


  • Cooldown and grind to a coarse powder(rava consistency).

  • In a pan add 1/2 tsp ghee, cashews, and roast.

  • Add 1/4 cup grated coconut.
  • Add the ground aval/poha. Mix.
  • Add the jaggery water using a filter to strain to remove the dirt and cardamom flakes.

  • Mix well and rest it for a few minutes for the aval to absorb the sweetness. 

  • Aval becomes soft and ready for pooja/to eat.
