Homemade podi is always fresh and aromatic. It is so simple and tastier than the store-bought ones. There are a lot of variations in making this podi. You could omit the fried gram and add some black pepper too. I like the taste of fried gram in it. I also use this podi for idli and dosa.
Preparation Time: 20mins | Yields : 250 gms approxIngredients:
Toor dal/thuvaram paruppu - 1 cupFried gram/ pottu kadala - 1 cupRed chili/ milagai - 10 to 12Garlic/poondu - 3Jeera/ seeragam - 1 tbspDry coconut - 1/2 cupSalt to tasteOil - 1 tsp
Method:- Dry roast toor dal till golden brown. You can feel the smell of it. Transfer to a plate or bowl.
- Dry roast fried gram for a min. Transfer to the bowl.
- Add a tsp of oil and fry the red chili. Transfer.
- Fry jeera and garlic in the same pan for just a min. Transfer.
- Fry the coconut. No need to fry if it is dry coconut.

- Cooldown completely.
- Add salt and hing to it while grinding.
- Store in an airtight container. Have with hot rice and nallenai(sesame oil) or ghee.
