Simili Urundai is a healthy ragi sweet made with jaggery, peanuts and sesame. Ragi is a good source of iron and calcium and this recipe is packed with nutrients. Do give this to your kids at least twice a week.
My mother in law just referred this sweet on how to make it, and I wanted to try this, as we all like ragi based snacks. It is so craving, a must try snack.This is an old and traditional sweet made with a stone grinder. Since we have to make this with the help of a mixie now, at least we could could follow the recipes to give a good nutritious snack to our family.

Ingredients:
Ragi powder - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1/2 cup
Roasted peanuts - 1/3 cup
Sesame seeds - 1/4 cup
Cardamom/ Elaichi - 4 nos
Salt a pinch
Nallenai or ghee to roast the roti.
Water to knead the dough
Method:
- Measure and keep the ingredients.
- Add a pinch of salt to the ragi flour and make a dough using water.
- Flatten it out in your hand on a plastic sheet greased with oil.
- Cook them on a tawa both sides using some oil or ghee.
- Cool them and break into pieces.
- In a mixer add the roti and cardamom give it a pulse grind. Then add jaggery, peanuts and sesame, grind them until a coarse texture.
- Put them in a bowl and start making to roll them into balls. The moisture from the jaggery will help to make the balls.
- Store them in room temperature for 5 to 6 days.
