Masala thattai is a slightly different variation of thattai. A popular snack made of rice flour in South India.
Even after Diwali was over, I had to make some snacks for my home. This turned out really aromatic with addition of the garlic and curry leaves.
Preparation Time :10mins | Cooking Time : 25 mins |Serves: 4
Ingredients:
Rice flour - 2 cup
Gram flour/Besan - 1/2 cup
Peanuts - 2 tbsp crushed coarsely
Channa dal - 2 tbsp soaked in water
Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
Asfoetida - a pinch
Channa dal - 2 tbsp soaked in water
Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
Asfoetida - a pinch
Salt - 1/2 tsp or to taste
Oil to fry
To grind:
Dry red chili - 5
Garlic - 3 cloves
Curry leaves
Method:
- Grind the red chili, garlic and curry leaves.
- Coarsely grind the peanuts.
- Heat oil for frying. Meanwhile lets prepare the dough. Take the rice flour and besan.
- Add all the ingredients and mix.
- Take a scoop of the hot oil and add to the dry mix.
- Add water and make to a soft dough.
- Make small balls and flatten it out on a dry cloth. Which makes it easy to remove and drop in the oil.
- Drop them one by one and fry until color changes, don't crowd them.
- When the color changes and the bubbles stop, drain them on a paper towel.
